Read the Fence permit guide →Why do I need a site plan for a fence permit?
Building departments use the site plan to verify that your proposed fence meets local setback requirements, does not encroach on easements, and is located within your property boundaries. Without a plan showing the fence location and its relationship to property lines, most building departments will not accept the application. For a full breakdown of when fences require permits and the rules in your state, see our fence permit guide.
Is the proposed fence drawn on the plan?
Yes. Every plan we prepare includes your proposed fence drawn and dimensioned in its correct position on the lot. You provide the fence location and length when you submit your order details and we draw it onto the plan based on your property's GIS data and satellite imagery.
Can I use this plan for an HOA submission?
Yes. Many HOAs require a site plan showing the proposed fence location before approving an installation. Our plans show property lines, the proposed fence location, and relevant dimensions in a format suitable for HOA review. If your HOA has specific requirements, note them in the additional information field when you submit your order details.
Will my building department accept this plan?
Our plans are prepared to meet standard building department requirements. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and some building departments require plans to be stamped by a licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect. We recommend verifying your local requirements before ordering.
Which tier should I choose?
Basic covers what most building departments need for a straightforward fence permit application. Standard adds more existing property detail and impervious surface calculations which some jurisdictions require. Premium adds setback dimensions and distances labeled directly on the plan and a DWG file, useful for strict jurisdictions or HOAs with detailed requirements.
What information do you need to prepare my plan?
After selecting your tier you will complete a short form with your property address, the proposed fence length and location on the lot, and any specific requirements from your building department or HOA. If you have an existing survey you can upload it to improve accuracy.
How do revisions work?
Once we send your draft plan you can review it and request changes. We will update the plan at no additional charge within your revision allowance. Premium orders include unlimited revisions. If your building department or HOA requests specific changes after submission, contact us and we will update the plan.
